Suggested Listening
Comparison to generate ideas for both arranging cover songs AND composing your own. The song is "Hurt" - written by Trent Reznor and recorded for the 1994 Nine Inch Nails album "The Downward Spiral", where it received a Grammy nomination & peaked at #8 on the charts....then re-made by Johnny Cash in 2002 for his final album & his final hit song during his life (peaked at #39 but won both Grammy & CMA awards - Cash died in 2003)....then Trent covered the Johnny Cash cover of the Trent Reznor cover (after Trent declared in praise of the Cash version, "...the song doesn't belong to me anymore...") for a live TV show.
The differences in each version should spark a cascade of ideas for your own song arrangements and compositions.
